Next Event: Mission - only for the hard-core?

The next ReachOut e-track will be held on Saturday October 16th 2010 at 6:45pm, at SMBC, 43 Badminton Rd, Croydon.

Why should I care about mission?  Every Christian has their different gifts and mine isn’t mission.  I’ll leave it to those hard-core Christians out there who obviously have a passion for it...
Alfred Olwa will be speaking to us on why a passion for mission should beat at the heart of every Christian.  Alfred has a particular gift in both declaring God’s word and in recognising what in our Sydney, Christian culture holds us back from being involved in mission.  Come prepared to be rebuked and inspired by God’s word.
Alfred Olwa is Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Divinity and Theology at the Uganda Christian University, pastor and currently a PhD candidate at Moore Theological College, Sydney.  Most importantly, he is a passionate believer in the Lord Jesus.

We will also have three seminars presented by experienced cross cultural workers, Human Trafficking, Cross-Cultural Communication and Mission in Shame based cultures.

Human trafficking – Kelsey Talbott and Janice Collins - International Teams

Human Trafficking is a $9.5 billion industry across the globe.  Learn about what this looks like on a global scale, with examples from different regions.   Numerous groups are fighting human trafficking in various ways across the globe including coalitions of Christian ministries seeking to act for justice and mercy.  Learn about these and ways in which you can get involved.

Kelsey Talbott is a trainer for the hands That Heal Course – designed to equip caregivers of trafficking survivors.  Kelsey, from USA, serves with International Teams in Athens, Greece in the NeaZoi ministry to those enslaved in prostitution.

Janice Collins is National Director of International Teams in Australia and part of the core team seeking to grow global ministry in the area of human trafficking and slavery

Cross-cultural Communication – Andrew - Interserve

“I understand the gospel, and know how to present it clearly – isn’t that enough?” This seminar explores how important it to understand culture as we try to relate and communicate our faith in cross-cultural contexts.

Andrew has worked in several countries in Asia and the Mediterranean with Interserve over a 20 year period. He now directs CultureConnect, a ministry of Interserve Australia which aims to assist the Australian church in reaching out to their global neighbours with the gospel.

Mission in “Shame” Cultures – Alfred Olwa

From early in our Christian lives we’re told that the Gospel deals with the problem of sin. Yet across the world there are many cultures that see sin not as an issue of a guilt to be pardoned, but a shame to be removed and relationships to be restored. Our speaker, Alfred Olwa, will be examining a different shape to our mission to these ‘shame-based cultures’.
